Easter (Every)day

I need to hear this more than anyone, but wanted to share with you.

You don’t need to be a preacher or have an M.Div to deliver the most effective sermon there is.  The gospel.

And you don’t have to look far to find the person most in need of hearing the message.  The mirror.

Easter Sunday was 7 days ago, and yet the message of Easter is not limited to 1 Sunday.  It has limitless power to permeate all 365 days of the year.

Easter Sunday was 7 days ago, and yet the message of Easter cannot be contained within attending a church service, spending time with family, and eating a nice meal.  It has limitless power to flood your entire life.

The content available to us today is limitless in its quantity and yet limited in its effect on our lives, at least in comparison to 1 timeless piece of content whose power has no limit.

Here is a simple, yet powerful practice that I have found to be so orienting and effective in helping me draw closer to God.  Preaching the gospel to yourself everyday.

Jesus, you left heaven for me.

You chose to leave your power behind to be born as a baby in the most humble of circumstances.

Not in a king’s palace, but in a manger.

You lived the perfect life I never could.

You proclaimed the kingdom of God and claimed to be the Son of God, and for that the very people you came to save had you beaten and flogged.

You were innocent and yet suffered unjustly.

You were crucified on a cross, and when you died you took all of my sins and flaws and mistakes upon yourself, and they died with you.  My old self that was a slave to sin was put to death.

And then 3 days later, you were raised to life!  You conquered the grave.  You defeated death.  And I rose with you.  A new creation in Christ.

After appearing to many witnesses for 40 days, you ascended back to heaven where you originally came from, and then you sent the Holy Spirit.  And your church was born.

And now the life I live is found in you and empowered by your Spirit.

And I will follow you all the days of my life.
